In Spanish two we read a book called Esperanza. It's told through Esperanza's perspective, a woman who lives in Guatemala with her family. She is married to Alberto and has two kids, Ricardito and Lily. They were a family that had flee their home and illegally come to the U.S. Every Thursday we read a couple of chapters and completed an assignment based on the chapters. After finishing the book we were given a list of 13 project options to complete by exhibition. In the end I chose to write the story through someone else's perspective, Ricardito's. Since I completed the story early I had time to do another project. My second piece was painting a portrait of the main characters in the book which you can see to the left
Through this project I was able to learn more spanish through ways I never would've thought of. I enjoy reading books, but don't really have time to read, let alone trying to read a spanish book. I found that reading easy spanish books really expands my vocabulary and shows me how spanish sentences are structured differently compared to english. It was a struggle, learning any language is, but I really enjoyed this project because it pushed me to grow in another Spanish. Although I am part Mexican I'm not fluent in Spanish and I hope one day, soon, I'll be able to speak fluently to others and understand them without being confused. |
